Week 40
Your baby is now ready to be born! His organ systems are working fully, except for his lungs which can take until a few hours post birth to establish a normal breathing pattern. Your baby should measure about 50 cm, and will weigh between 2.4-3.8 kgs at birth (healthy weight range). If your baby is not here yet, don’t worry, only 5 per cent of babies are born on their estimated due date. Most doctors wait another two weeks before considering a pregnancy overdue.
