Why should I wait to have sex?

  • If you have only entered your teenage years remember this is only just the beginning puberty and your body has many critical changes ahead.
  • In Australia 64% of teen girls wish they had of waited before becoming sexually active & regret their experience, be encouraged to wait until your older.
  • If you are in your early teens the possibility is that you won’t be developed fully yet and you can also be at a higher risk for STI's (sexually transmitted infections) because of this.
  • The younger people start having sex the more sexual partners they are likely to have...increasing risk of STI's: some of these STI’s have no cure and can cause infertility.
  • Having babies is tough for adults at times, and can certainly have added difficulties as a teenager. With the right support and access to these services your future can be a great one, although getting that support is the key.
  • Teenage life is a gift and special time to hold onto.
  • Sex is a big decision, and not one to be taken lightly. It involves the body, mind and soul, and you can’t undo the experience.
  • Love is a decision not a feeling. Many young girls make the decision to have sex based on a feeling but feelings are constantly changing as a teenager.
  • There are so many other ways to show a person they are special to you
  • Waiting is best, if a person really cares for you they will respect your decision and wait until the right time.
