Beauty Tips
You might be a girly, girly type of woman or more of the out-doors type, or somewhere in between! If you are interested in hair, makeup and beauty from a little bit to a lot, read on for some tips!
- Renowned makeup artist, Bobbi Brown, recommends a simple beauty routine for pregnant women. Her must haves during pregnancy include: concealer (1 shade lighter than foundation), pink blush and yellow toned foundation.
- Brown is not a fan of maternity clothes, she advises women to develop their own style during pregnancy, clothes that will improve the way you feel about yourself.
- Your skin will change along with the rest of your body during pregnancy. To accommodate this you will need to change your routine. If your face becomes oilier choose a water-based, or oil free moisturiser. If face becomes dry, moisturise more often. If itchiness occurs see your pharmacist or doctor for an anti itch treatment.
- Keeping skin moisturised (cocoa butter/vitamin E cream) can help prevent/reduce stretchmarks, especially on the stomach.
Clean face thoroughly twice a day.
- Don’t use acne treatment during pregnancy, or check with your pharmacist for one that is safe for use in pregnancy.
- Use sensitive skin products.
- Look after your feet.
- Drink lots of water!
- Remember, long baths will make your skin dryer.
- Sleep helps to restore skin.
- Use sunscreen more often, as your skin will be more sensitive.
- It's best to completely avoid colouring, perming or chemically straightening your hair during your first trimester. Although it's not so important in the rest of pregnancy, it's still advisable to steer clear until after the baby is born.
Following are some fun and natural hair care tips:
- If you feel the need for some colour in your hair natural henna paste gives red hues, rosemary and sage rinse turns your hair darker and then for a lighter look put lemon juice in your hair then sit in the sun. However, these natural hair dyes will not give the same effect as a salon.
- Hair conditioning treatments include fresh fruit and vegetable mixed with natural oils and honey for a hair mask. Avocadoes, bananas and melons are best option for fruit masks.
- Taking pre-natal vitamins are a preventative strategy against negative changes to hair and nails.
- Try to get as much beauty sleep as possible!
